What Do You Know?
- In what month are we closest to the sun? JANUARY
- Why do mountains often have snow on them when they are closer to the sun than the valleys? The sun heats the surface of the earth and the earth radiates heat into the air. The tops of mountains are much too far away to receive much heat from down below.
- What color is a red sweater in a pitch black room? Black since it is a red pigment but must have light to make it look red. No light. No colour.
- Does water take up more space or the ice made from the water? The Ice. Try putting a plastic bottle of water in the freezer and you will see how the bottle expands due to the water changing to ice.
- What color does an object appear when you look toward a sunset? Black if it is in front of the sun and not off to the side. You know ... silhouettes?
- What will fall to the floor faster? A balled up piece of paper or a real ball of the same size? If let go fairly, the same time. Not dependent on weight. Look up Galileo.
- What shape is the earth's orbit around the sun? Elliptical. However you would find it almost impossible to detect the difference if a circle and the planet's ellipse were put side by side.
- Where was recycling first done? Probably the Garden of Eden, by nature when materials rot and turn back to earth.
- Who invented the light bulb? Light Bulb [1874, Henry Woodward, Mathew Evans]
- In what country was the garbage bag, flip-top pop can and insulin invented or discovered? Canada.
